Boas depois de tentar instalar o Cairo-Dock depois de ter lido a noticia no peoplware, ficou a dar um erro e nao consigo instalar, agora nem da para abrir o o gestor de actualizações.

Isso foi de certeza um repositório mal colocado no ubuntu.
abre a consola e faz o seguinte:
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
depois responde com o conteúdo que tiveres do ficheiro

fica em baixo o ficheiro aberto.. isto de aprender a mexer em linux da estragos
mas estou a gostar.

ok, está claro qual é o teu problema;
faz
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
e apaga o que refiro de seguida (basicamente é o lixo todo que vem depois da linha do cairo dock) e depois grava o ficheiro
